From spoon carving to a spooky fun night with Old Warty, there is something for the whole family!

WEDNESDAY 3 OCTOBER

Toddler Trundle at Ryton Pools Country Park

A weekly event for the tiniest of tots! Leaf fun, stories, mud pies and collecting treasures will be amongst some of our activities designed for the smallest naturalists.  After the walk and activities, head back to The Courtyard Café for refreshments (extra cost for refreshments, exclusive reduced-price Toddler Trundle menu available).   A quarterly programme is available from the Visitor Centre giving activity details for each week.

Time: 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

SATURDAY 6 OCTOBER

Spoon Carving Workshop at Ryton Pools Country Park

This simple, accessible hobby will have you hooked for life! Using materials found all around us, you can create useful and functional items for you and your family. During this session you will learn about the properties of the wood from our native species, before turning your hand to the Scandinavian art of carving spoons from the freshly cut wood of your choice. Express your own style and learn at your own pace to create your own masterpiece! Workshop is held outdoors and includes tea and biscuits. You must be over 16 years of age to participate in this event due to sharp tools used.

Time: 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.

Night Fishing Sessions at Kingsbury Water Park

We are again offering anglers the opportunity to fish Pine Pool (open to all) or Canal Pool (carp permit holders only) from the morning of Saturday 20 October through to the evening of Sunday 21 October. Pegs will be allocated at the time of booking.  Bookings close at 12.00 p.m. on the Friday before the event.  Please note there will be an administration fee of £5.00 to change your initial booking.

Time:  8.00 a.m. on Saturday through to 9.00 p.m. on Sunday

Cost:   £40.00 (£20.00 for permit holders), payable at time of booking

SATURDAY 20 OCTOBER

Volunteer Saturday at Ryton Pools Country Park

Come along and learn about practical country park management in the best way possible – by getting stuck in! Meeting one Saturday per month, we will undertake a variety of practical work tasks such as pond clearance, fence repairs and hedge laying. This is a great way to meet like-minded people, keep active and help manage your local country park! No experience necessary as full training is given. Please bring sturdy footwear and suitable clothes for the weather conditions.

Time: 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.

SUNDAY 21 OCTOBER

Coppicing at Hartshill Hayes Country Park

Learn how to coppice and undertake one of the oldest forms of woodland management, dating as far back as the Bronze Age. Suitable sturdy footwear required and wet weather clothing if needed.

Time: 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Halloween Spooky Fun Trail at Ryton Pools Country Park

Follow the trail around the park, complete your trail sheet and collect your badge prize - fun for all the family. Collect your trail sheet from the Visitor Centre.

Cost:£2.00 per trail sheet.

 

SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER

Halloween: The Little Trot of Horrors at Ryton Pools Country Park

Come and join in with the spooky story of Halloween at Ryton Pools! Join your friendly, ghostly guide in the courtyard and join in with the activities as you explore! Can you find  all of Old Warty’s cauldrons in her garden? What has happened to the clumsy Rangers and how DID that giant spider find its way to Ryton Pools? This event is designed for younger children or those who may find it a little too scary, later on in the dark. There will be four hourly guided “trots” around the activities. Suitable for children aged 3 years plus who must be accompanied by an adult.

Time: 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER

Halloween Train rides at Kingsbury Water Park

Trains running from 2pm (£2 per person return) last train 7.30pm

Refreshments available from café and hot dogs and burgers from Echills Wood station from 5.30pm

Fancy Dress competition from 5pm at the Station

Amusements and fun atmosphere with scary spooky fun from 5.30pm

Bring a torch and wrap up warm!

Parking charges apply.

 

SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER

Old Warty’s Halloween Family Fun Night at Ryton Pools Country Park

Bring the whole family to Ryton Pools for a spooky evening of Halloween fun and games with Old Warty and friends. This evening event includes rides on the Ghost Train, The Halloween Teddy Hospital and Old Warty the Witches’ Haunted Garden. You can also visit the Tunnel Web Spider Lair, Bat Cave, Clumsy Ranger Trail and other areas during the evening. Don’t forget to bring your own carved pumpkin to be put out in the Ryton Pumpkin Patch to be judged by the visitors. A prize will be awarded to the one voted the best! The Courtyard Café will be open all evening, selling hot food and Halloween treats at an additional cost and the Visitor Centre will be open selling Halloween gifts and goodies. Please bring a torch and a teddy for patching up in the hospital.  An event for children aged 3 years and above, who must be accompanied by an adult. Please note – only one adult per child will be permitted on the ghost train to keep queue times down.

Time: 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

SUNDAY 28 OCTOBER

Autumn ‘Quarryman’s’ Walk at Hartshill Hayes Country Park

Guided walk with a Countryside Ranger on the Quarryman’s track. Discover something of the history of quarrying in the Hartshill area and see modern quarrying at work at Jee’s Quarry. Please bring sturdy footwear and suitable clothes for the weather conditions. Please bring your own packed lunch.

Time: 10.30 a.m. to 14.30 p.m. including a 30 min stop for lunch.

Meet: The Tea Kiosk

Cost: Adults: £4.00, Concessions £2.50, Family £8.50 (2 adults, 2 children)

MONDAY 29 OCTOBER

Dragons at Kingsbury Water Park

Drop in to make a dragon puppet out of an egg carton. Take it away to scare everyone with!

TUESDAY 30 OCTOBER

Spooky Spiders at Kingsbury Water Park

Drop in to make some spooky spiders or maybe some cute ones. Take them out at Halloween and scare someone!

TUESDAY 30 OCTOBER

Sticky Campfire Apples and Survival Dens at Ryton Pools Country Park

Come and have some fun designing and building your own woodland shelter that’s camouflaged and big enough for your team, and waterproof...ish!!  The Rangers will be on hand to provide tips, materials and help.  When all the shelters are built we will light a small fire to make some sticky campfire toffee apples.  An event for children aged 3 years and over, who must be accompanied by an adult.

Time: 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY 31 OCTOBER

Bonfire Dens and Toffee Apples at Kingsbury Water Park

Build a den out of natural materials and then cook your own toffee apple over the camp fire. Suitable for children aged 5 and above, who must be accompanied by an adult. Wear old clothes, you will get messy!

Time: 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.

Meet: The Education Centre.

Cost: £4.00 per child.

WEDNESDAY 31 OCTOBER

Ryton Young Anglers at Ryton Pools Country Park

Angling tuition sessions to be held on Wednesdays in the Warwickshire school holidays, in conjunction with Leamington Angling Club.  Come along as many times as you wish and learn the essentials of good angling and a little about the species in Ryton Pool.  Suitable for beginners or those with a little experience; no equipment required.

Time:  1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.

Meet:  Ryton Pool car park

Cost:  £10.00 per child, per session

Willow Wizard and Witch Wands at Ryton Pools Country Park

Just imagine having a wand like a wizard to get you out of all sorts of tricky situations!  Find a magical stick – or better still, let it find you!  The Rangers will help you turn it into something really special and magical.  An event for children aged 3 years and over, who must be accompanied by an adult.
