The school term may have already started but there are still plenty of activities taking place across Warwickshire County Council’s county parks this September. So why not get on your outdoor clothes and get the family down to your local country park for some fun and fresh air.

SUNDAY 2 SEPTEMBER

Rangers Ramble at Ryton Pools Country Park

Join a Ranger for this wildlife themed walk around the park. Learn a little about how we manage the park for our wildlife and the plants and animals that call Ryton Pools home.

SUNDAY 2 SEPTEMBER

Pond Dipping at Hartshill Hayes Country Park

A chance to use the equipment provided to find out what lives in our woodland pond. You’ll get full guidance from a Countryside Ranger, who’ll help you identify the bugs and beasties! A family event suitable for children aged from 3 years, who must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 5 will need extra supervision during the activity.

Time: 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m

Toddler Trundle at Ryton Pools Country Park

A weekly event for the tiniest of tots! Leaf fun, stories, mud pies and collecting treasures will be amongst some of our activities designed for the smallest naturalists. After the walk and activities, head back to The Courtyard Café for refreshments (extra cost for refreshments, exclusive reduced-price Toddler Trundle menu available). A quarterly programme is available from the Visitor Centre giving activity details for each week.

Bats Alive! At Ryton Pools Country Park

An evening slide presentation by the Ranger, followed by a night time stroll to spot these amazing animals in their natural habitat! Learn how to use our bat detectors to listen to their high frequency echolocation calls. Hot drinks and biscuits included. Please wear sturdy footwear and suitable clothing for the walk. Please bring a torch.

SATURDAY 15 SEPTEMBER TO SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER

Autumn Wild Camp Out at Ryton Pools Country Park

The wild Camp Out returns by popular demand for our first Autumn session! Book your pitch soon to avoid disappointment! This event runs from Saturday afternoon through to Sunday morning and includes a variety of structured family and child friendly activities (mostly optional). Activities will include: orienteering, a baked potato tea, nocturnal walks and wildlife watching, ghost stories, toasting marshmallows, wild small mammal trapping and bush craft demonstrations. The Courtyard Café can provide pre-ordered cooked breakfasts for Sunday morning if required. Price includes car parking, allotted pitch, all activities, food and drink for Saturday tea (jacket potato, hot chocolate and marshmallows). One pitch is for up to 2 adults and 3 children. Up to two more children can be added to a pitch for an additional £5 per child. You will need to bring your own fillings for jacket potatoes and all of your own camping equipment. No open fires or barbeques are allowed, although camping stoves are permitted. An information guide will be sent out to all attendees well in advance of the day.

Night Fishing Sessions at Kingsbury Water Park

We are again offering anglers the opportunity to fish Pine Pool (open to all) or Canal Pool (carp permit holders only) from the morning of Saturday 22 September through to the evening of Sunday 23 September. Pegs will be allocated at the time of booking. Bookings close at 12.00 p.m. on the Friday before the event. Please note there will be an administration fee of £5.00 to change your initial booking. A further session will be held on the weekend of 20/21 October 2018.

Time: 8.00 a.m. on Saturday through to 9.00 p.m. on Sunday

Cost: £40.00 (£20.00 for permit holders), payable at time of booking

Volunteer Saturday at Ryton Pools Country Park

Come along and learn about practical country park management in the best way possible – by getting stuck in! Meeting one Saturday per month, we will undertake a variety of practical work tasks such as pond clearance, fence repairs and hedge laying. This is a great way to meet like-minded people, keep active and help manage your local country park! No experience necessary as full training is given. Please bring sturdy footwear and suitable clothes for the weather conditions.

SUNDAY 23 SEPTEMBER

Hedgerow Foraging Workshop at Ryton Pools Country Park

Experience the Warwickshire hedgerows in a way that most people miss, the treasures hidden under every leaf and around the next corner. Discover the lost art of foraging, how to identify, harvest and cook a plethora of wild foods out in the park, before experiencing the culinary delights of the countryside kitchen in an extraordinary feast of traditional hedgerow fayre for all!
