This October, Warwickshire’s Hate Crime Partnership are marking Hate Crime Awareness Week (13 – 20 October 2018) with a Love Instead of Hate Community Conference, which is taking place on Saturday 20 October between 10:00 – 15:30 at The Life Church, Bulkington Road, Bedworth.
This event is for anyone who lives or works in Warwickshire, It’s aims are to bring communities together to fight hate; to embrace our differences and to promote cohesion.
Hate crime is a widely unreported problem as victims don’t always think a crime has been committed. This event will aim to provide a greater understanding about what constitutes hate crime and how it can be reported within Warwickshire.
The conference objectives are to:
- Raise awareness and reinforce messages about hate crime and the importance of reporting.
- Encourage communities to speak out against hate and report incidents. •
- Empower and inspire people to be actively involved in combating hate within their own community.
- Update communities about the work being undertaken in Warwickshire by Partners (You said, We did) and obtain ideas about new areas of work.
The conference format will be a mixture of presentations and more interactive sessions including the opportunity to take part in a creative art project and an African Drumming workshop.
Confirmed speakers for this event include:
- Trish Adudu - BBC TV and Radio Presenter
- Dan Biddle - 7/7 Bombing Survivor
- Caroline Paige - Author of True Colours and former Army Officer
- Slyvia Lancaster OBE - Founder of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation

Cllr Andy Crump, Warwickshire County Council portfolio holder for Fire and Rescue and Community Safety, said:
“Making sure Warwickshire Residents are safe and feel safe in the county is a key priority for us. Hatred and Hate Crime have no place in our communities and the fact that so many of these crimes go unreported is not a situation we can or should tolerate.
“I sincerely hope our residents will join us this Hate Crime Awareness Week for this fantastic conference and that, together, we can commit to tackle the problems.”
Last year, the Warwickshire hate crime partnership released the music single ‘love instead of hate’ written by ‘let it shine’ Singer/Songwriter Jordan Charles and featuring the vocals of ‘The Voice’ semi-finalist Letitia George. The video for the single can be found here:
