What: Winners of the inaugural Ocado Foundation Road Safety Trophy for most outstanding primary school.
A prestigious new road safety award has been won by a local primary school – Michael Drayton Junior School – for their work in raising the awareness of road safety in their school and community.
The trophy has been sponsored by the Ocado Foundation in collaboration with Warwickshire County Council’s Road Safety Team to highlight schools who go the extra mile to promote road safety to children, teachers and the wider community.
Julie Goodyear, Corporate Responsibility Project Manager at The Ocado Foundation said “We want everyone to feel safe while using roads in the UK, which is why we’re investing in road safety education projects like the Road Safety Club. We’re delighted to award the Ocado Foundation Road Safety trophy to the children at Michael Drayton Junior School; I’d like to personally congratulate them wholeheartedly on their hard work and dedication to road safety“
Councillor Jeff Clarke, Warwickshire County Councillor Portfolio Holder for Transport & Environment added: “We want Warwickshire to be supported by excellent infrastructure, and of course a key part of this is that our roads are safe for all users. This project is fantastic as it encourages young people to think about road safety in the wider community, not just around their school. Well done to everyone at Michael Drayton Junior School!”
Over the next four academic years, the award will be presented annually to the most outstanding Warwickshire primary school who:
Are active members of the Warwickshire Road Safety Club
Are actively worked towards achieving their ModeshiftSTARS award
Have active and effective Junior Road Safety Officers
Can provide evidence that road safety class challenges have been completed
Have designed and implemented an original road safety project in their school
Winners will receive the Road Safety Trophy for one year along with a prize to the value of £500 kindly donated by Ocado, to spend on road safety initiatives over the coming year.
