Alan Carter, owner of Atherstone Jewellers outside storefront

Gold & Silver Investments is a family run business established in 1975. It sells jewellery, watches, giftware, carries out repairs and offers a bespoke jewellery design service.

We caught up with owner Alan Carter as part of the #Warksmas campaign

Why did you set up Gold & Silver Investments?

I started many years ago in the second hand trade and started to see unusual pieces of jewellery coming in and my interest in precious metals, gemstones and watches grew from there.

What do you think keeps your customers coming back?

As a small independent family business we can deliver that personal service to our customers, many regular customers have come back time and time again over the years.

What is your best-selling product?

Our best selling products are the stunning gold earrings and pendants that we stock, they are a perfect gift for your loved one.

What is the most unusual item you stock?

The most unusual items we stock are a great range of Storm watches which are very unusual and collectible - even we struggle to tell the time on these!

Have you had any unusual requests from customers?

We were set the task of bespoking a beautiful gold gemstone necklace for a lady as a birthday gift from her husband. We delivered the necklace to the restaurant personally to present it to her whilst they were dining.

How important is the Christmas period to your business?

It’s very important to us as it generates the majority of our sales. It will be even more so this year due to the impact of the pandemic.

Who would be you ideal four guests for Christmas lunch and why?

The head designer at Tiffany’s. Alan Sugar - always good for business advice. The Queen - what a stunning jewellery collection she has. And finally Martin Johnson because the family are big rugby fans.

What would be your own personal ultimate Christmas present?

Health and happiness for everyone. Merry Christmas.
