Glitzy Bits owner Billy Sumner

Glitzy Bits in Coleshill opened in 2013 and specialises in unique fashion and gifts. We caught up with owner Billy Sumner as part of the #Warksmas campaign.

Why did you set up Glitzy Bits?

It was a complete career change. I have previously had lots different businesses with lots of pressure and when the shop became available in Coleshill (my home town), my partner, who has an eye for fashion, thought a ladies clothing and accessories shop would fit well on the High Street. We currently employ two full-time staff.

What are the reasons why customers are attracted to you and keep coming back?

We are very active on social media and we have built up a strong community following. We always ensure our stock lines are up to date, original, and a unique blend of fashion, timeless and sustainable. We work with our customers on feedback to ensure that we are continuing to deliver what they want.

What your best-selling products?

Magic trousers are our best-seller (they are magic because they fit a size 10 through to an 18!) plus our new glitzy leisure wear, which has been perfect for lockdown. We have recently added some brand names to the boutique, such as Wrendale Designs and Katie Loxton, which are proving popular.

What do you think is your best product or service, and why?

Our customer service. We are always available to answer customer queries and are happy to go the extra mile to satisfy our customer’s needs. In lockdown we have personally delivered orders to local customers who have been shielding or isolating, meaning that they can still get their ‘Glitzy fix’.

What is the most unusual items you stock?

We stock everything from clothing, hats and boots, through to candles, diffusers and notepads!

How important is the Christmas period to you?

We love the Christmas trading period and this is always a significant proportion of our annual turnover.

Who would be you ideal (dead or alive) four guests for Christmas lunch and why?

David Attenborough without a doubt would be my first choice. Followed by Gerald Durrell (naturalist, writer, zookeeper, conservationist, and television presenter), George Michael for his kindness and generosity, and Celine Dion.

What would be your own personal ultimate Christmas present?

I am an avid duck person, I breed them so my ideal present and my absolute idea of perfection would be a pair of Stellar Eiders!
