Joco shop store front

Joco Gifts was established in April 2015 and sells a range of gifts for all occasions from birth to memorial, licensed brands including Disney and Harry Potter. It also has a range of fragranced lamps

We caught up with owner Jo Williams as part of the #Warksmas campaign.

Why did you set up Joco Gifts?

I set up Joco as there wasn’t really anywhere local that supplied interior décor accessories. As the business developed Joco began to supply more gift than homewares and there is now a mixture of products across the store.

What do you think keeps your customers coming back?

The Joco team are warm and welcoming, we will locate products for customers looking for a gift for someone who is notoriously difficult to buy for, and we will gift wrap purchases on request. We do our best to supply goods at the best prices and our customer service has seen the business win many awards.

What is your best-selling product?

Ashleigh and Burwood fragrance lamps are our best seller at the moment due to them proven to kill 97% of airborne coronaviruses. These lamps are not only pretty to look at but they create a wonderful fragrance within the home or office, kill mould spores, pet odours, kill bacteria and also most recently certified to kill coronavirus.

What is the most unusual item you stock?

We have a range of gothic creatures and skulls within the shop. They are not to everyone’s taste, however they do sell well.

Have you had any unusual requests from customers?

We had a customer showed us a photo she had taken of a candle holder on a TV programme that she wanted. With some investigating we manage to locate the supplier and she had one of them in her own home within a few weeks. She was extremely happy.

How important is the Christmas period to your business?

Christmas period is incredibly important to us and accounts for around 40% of our annual turnover. Without a successful Christmas we will have to change many things within 2021. Sadly this may mean a reduction in the team at Joco.

Who would be you ideal (dead or alive) four guests for Christmas lunch and why?

Wow that’s difficult. My partner and my children, and my grandma who has sadly passed. Just spending one day in her company would be amazing. She always gave the best advice.

What would be your own personal ultimate Christmas present?

A new car, as mine is 18 years old and is leaking water inside. Sadly she won’t last me much longer.
