People who live and work in Warwickshire are invited to share their views on the county’s priorities to tackle health inequality and improve the overall health and wellbeing of residents.

Health and wellbeing partners across Warwickshire work together to improve access to services and health outcomes for local people and need people’s views on the approach they take to do this. This approach is outlined in the county’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

The Health and Wellbeing Strategy for the five-year period 2020-2025 has been drafted and is currently open to public consultation so people can comment on the priorities and the approach it recommends. The public consultation is live at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/ask until 5 January 2021. The final strategy which will incorporate consultation feedback will be published in Spring 2021.

The strategy has been created by Warwickshire’s Health and Wellbeing Board which is made up of leaders from the county, borough and district councils across Warwickshire as well as Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action (WCAVA), Healthwatch Warwickshire, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG), NHS trusts, Warwickshire Fire Service and the Police & Crime Commissioner. These partners in Warwickshire have an ambition to improve health and reduce inequalities due to lifestyle and make it easier for residents to get support.

The plan promotes healthy lifestyles and behaviours to help people stay healthy and well. It means working together to make sure that every child had the same opportunity to thrive and has the best start in life. If people have existing health problems, the board want to prevent them from getting worse. It also means helping people to age well and to slow the development of frailty in older people.

The plan will also be taking the following direction over the next two years:

  • Ensuring children and young people have the best start in life
  • Helping people improve their mental health and wellbeing, particularly around prevention and early intervention in our communities
  • Reducing inequalities in health outcomes and the wider determinants of health

These outcomes will be monitored through things such as healthy weight, mental health service performance, number of people living in poverty, a healthy life expectancy, physically active residents, number of suicides, dementia diagnosis and flu immunisations.

Cllr Les Caborn, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care & Health and Chair of Warwickshire Health and Wellbeing Board said:

“Taking part in consultation around the new Health and Wellbeing Strategy is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of everyone in Warwickshire. It’s important that we hear from everyone and understand different experiences to know that our priorities are right. If you know someone who may be negatively affected, help them to get in touch.

“We want everyone across the county to lead healthy and independent lives, we want to listen to our communities and by taking action people can have healthier futures and we can reduce inequalities in care.

“I would like to urge the community take part in the survey so that our five-year plan is as effective as possible in improving the lives of residents in Warwickshire.”
