Atherstone Children and Family Centre in North Warwickshire is helping families to stay active and have fun during the COVID-19 pandemic with new virtual course.
Healthy Movers is aimed at children aged 2-5 years old and includes a range of physical activity games to improve their knowledge, skills and confidence ultimately becoming more active and developing healthy habits.
The centre has been using Healthy Movers activity cards each week and sharing videos inviting families to try the activities at home. This has proved to be very popular and Healthy Movers now has a weekly spot on the virtual timetable of activities.
Warwickshire County Councillor Jeff Morgan, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services said:
“Staying active is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and developing these habits from an early age is a great step towards a healthy adult life.
“The Healthy Movers pack is a great tool to use within education setting or at home with lots of ideas for children and all the family to stay active together.”
Cherylynne Harrison, Children’s Services Manager for North Warwickshire added:
“The Healthy Movers programme has been really helpful, and families are finding the activities enjoyable. We are really proud that we are able to continue providing families with this support and pleased to see that people are incorporating Healthy Movers activities into their weekly routines.”
Healthy Movers is delivered by the Youth Sport Trust and supports early years practitioners to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to ensure every child is physically literate.
Working in partnership with Think Active, the Warwickshire County Council Family Wellbeing team have offered the Health Movers course free of charge to early years settings in North Warwickshire to help tackle rising obesity in the area.
