Extra Care Housing 55+ Commissioning Intentions
Our intention that Housing with Care will have grown and improved by 2030, increasing nomination rights and reducing the demand for residential care places, is part of our Adult Social Care Strategy.
Partnership and Strategy Development
Extra Care Housing is realised through partners working together. The Local Authority will work with the key agencies, including Housing Authorities, registered housing providers and care providers, and adult social care, to co-produce a clear, system-wide Extra Care Housing (ECH) strategy for the county. This will begin with a partnership workshop (Q2 2026) and lead to a published strategy and plan in 2028, setting out future development and operational expectations across Warwickshire
Development of New Schemes
ECH commissioners will continue to engage with developers and providers to explore opportunities for new scheme developments, particularly in areas where there is a current gap in ECH.
Understanding Need and Demand
A review of the ECH needs assessment and development plan is timely, It will update the estimates of the size and locations of future schemes, taking into account demographic trends and new schemes which have commenced since the plan was last updated.
Design Standards
The authority will develop and publish in early 2027, anECH Design Principles guidance document.
The ECH commissioners would be interested to hear from providers that include people with dementia and/or mixed age ranges in their approaches to ECH.
