As Head of Transport Strategy & Road Safety, you will be responsible for developing our strategic plans for future transport infrastructure, active travel, public transport, electric vehicles and more; developing business cases, securing funding and commissioning delivery of a range of schemes and projects. Leading our road safety engineering and education teams, you will work closely with Warwickshire Police through our Road Safety Partnership to reduce fatal and serious casualties using the safe system approach, and working towards vision zero.
Key responsibilities / What we’re looking for
As a strong and inspiring leader, you will have the ability to develop and maintain high performing teams and shape and direct the work of your service to deliver our priority outcomes. You will have direct operational responsibility over a range of service areas including transport strategy and planning, transport modelling and monitoring, active travel, road safety engineering and road safety education, alongside responsibility for the successful delivery of the Local Transport Fund for Warwickshire (c. £200m capital funding).
You will oversee and support the development of business cases and funding applications, both internally and externally, to support new transport infrastructure and road safety schemes and projects. You will effectively commission delivery of transport projects, ensuring achievement of aims and objectives within agreed budgets and timescales.
You will lead on, or significantly drive, relevant project and programme boards relating to key transport or road safety projects and activities, and develop and maintain strong relationships with other teams, partners, and stakeholders. Through an understanding of the inter-connectivity of your work across the council, you will strive to work collaboratively with other services to support the wider delivery of Warwickshire County Council’s objectives.
