Motorbike safety

Riding a motorbike can be an exhilarating experience, but it's essential to prioritise your safety on the road. We are here to provide you with valuable tips and guidance to ensure a safe riding experience.

We recognise that every death and life changing injury which has occurred on local roads, because of a road collision, is one too many. As part of our commitment to keeping Warwickshire safe we work closely with Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership.

Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership brings together organisations to reduce road risk in Warwickshire.

Biker Down and Crash Course offer free road safety courses for drivers, bikers & all road users.

Safety Gear:

  • Always wear a helmet that meets the British Standard and carries the ACU Gold approval or ECE 22.05 certification.
  • Invest in appropriate protective gear, including gloves, high-quality motorcycle jackets, pants, boots, and reflective clothing to enhance visibility.

Bike Maintenance:

  • Regularly check your motorbike's brakes, tires, lights, signals, and fluid levels to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule and address any issues promptly.

Visibility and Positioning:

  • Be aware of blind spots and ensure you're visible to other road users.
  • Position yourself in a way that maximises your visibility and use your lights and signals appropriately to indicate your intentions.

Defensive Riding:

  • Assume that other road users may not see you and be prepared for unexpected actions from drivers or pedestrians.
  • Maintain a safe following distance, avoid sudden lane changes, and consistently scan the road for potential hazards.

Speed and Distance:

  • Adhere to the speed limits and adjust your speed according to road conditions, weather, and traffic flow.
  • Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles to allow for reaction time and avoid tailgating.

Anticipate and Manage Hazards:

  • Be alert to potential hazards such as potholes, debris, uneven surfaces, and slippery road conditions.
  • Look out for other vehicles, pedestrians, and animals on the road to anticipate and manoeuvre around potential risks.

Continuous Learning:

  • Consider advanced motorcycle training courses to further enhance your riding skills and knowledge.
  • Stay updated with changes in road laws and safety regulations to ensure compliance and safe riding practices.
