Ecology projects and volunteering

Ecological Services provides ecological help and advice for local planning authorities, businesses and organisations, consultants, the general public and research students.

We provide advice about protected species, habitats, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), and Local Wildlife Sites and their designation. The Ecology group also carries out and advises on ecological surveys.

These are the type of projects we currently have underway or have carried out this year:

  • Phase 1 and phase 2 Habitat Surveys
  • Botanical surveys
  • Bat Surveys of schools, colleges and other buildings
  • Bird surveys
  • Reptile surveys
  • Great Crested Newt and Amphibian surveys
  • Surveys of School wildlife Areas
  • Ecological Management Plans

We have also been involved in flood alleviation and flood storage schemes, the High Speed Rail Link, road building schemes, cycle ways, mineral sites, working with schools on new builds, and other strategic housing sites.
