LGBT History month runs throughout February and is a chance to recognise lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, the history of the gay rights and the related civil rights movements.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue (WFRS) is supporting LGBT History month and raising the Pride flag at Leamington Spa HQ to help raise awareness and show support for all LGBTQ members within our service and communities.
As part of WFRS’s dedication to support LGBTQ communities, a fire service taster day dedicated to the LGBT community is being held at Kenilworth Fire Station, School Lane, Kenilworth, CV8 2GU on Sunday 3 February from 9.30am to 3.00pm and has been organised with support from Warwickshire Pride. The day is an opportunity for people to come along and meet firefighters, be given an introduction to the service and have a go at using some of the equipment used by firefighters on emergency calls. This is an informal day for people who may be considering joining the fire service to learn more and ask any questions they may have.
Imran Dean, Community Engagement Officer said: “The fire service represents the communities within which we work and it is important to us to represent the diversity of those communities within our workforce.”
“I encourage anyone who is interested in a role within the fire service and would like to find out more about the role and experience the drills, to come along to our taster day on 3rd February and meet our crews. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the scope of a role within the service and to have a go and see what we do.
Talking about the month, Councillor Andy Crump said: “As an inclusive service we are proud of the diversity of our staff and recognise the significant contribution LGBTQ people have made to the Service, both operationally and within our communities. Raising the Pride flag at Leamington headquarters is an important symbol of our inclusivity and we are proud to be supporting and celebrating this important month with our staff and the wider community.”
