Specialist supported living for adults with a range of disabilities has significantly improved in Bedworth thanks to the opening of Turville House, a new development of specialist supported apartments for adults with learning and physical disabilities.
Comprising of 16 specialist apartments, the development provides tenants with their own personal accommodation to meet their individual preferences, needs and requirements; with care staff available onsite 24/7 to provide support and ensure they can live as independently as possible.
The £3 million development is the result of an on-going partnership between Specialist Supported Living developers, HBV, Lifeways Community Care and Inclusion Housing CIC.
Councillor Les Caborn, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Adult Social Care, Warwickshire County Council, who officially opened the building said: “I am so pleased to see a development of this type in Bedworth. It is important to the local community that we take care of the most vulnerable people in our society. This scheme goes a long way in providing a safe and comfortable environment for people with learning and physical disabilities, while enabling them to live as independently as possible.
“Nationally there is growing population of adults with a range of disabilities, and these numbers are expected to grow even further over the coming years. Along with Turville House, Warwickshire County Council is planning more developments of this calibre which will allow people to remain independent in their own home for longer, with the knowledge that care staff are on hand 24/7.”
Julie Jackson, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, added: “As a council, we’re committed to looking at innovative ways in which we can provide the highest quality housing to all areas of society. Developments of this type provide us with the platform in which to offer adults with a range of disabilities an opportunity to live in their own home and have more independence than previously offered living in residential or sheltered accommodation."
Alastair Sheehan, Development and Planning Director of HBV, said: “Turville House is a prime example of how specialist supported housing can make a huge difference to adults with disabilities. Having their own home, along with onsite care means the tenants are able to live more independently and integrate into their local community.
“This scheme is one of several already delivered in the West Midlands by HBV and we are currently working closely with commissioners on the next roll-out in the region. We are proud to showcase this development as fine example of the positive outcomes that can be achieved for vulnerable people with the right kind of housing and support services.”
Claire Batsford - Development Manager for Lifeways, adds: “Lifeways is committed to providing innovative homes for adults with a range of disabilities. Turville House delivers a safe environment with onsite care staff, while also providing a home to call their own. Tenants will be able to live as independently as possible while receiving the right support.”
Sarah Waters, Business Director at Inclusion Housing, said: “Turville House is a prime example of what can be delivered through innovative partnerships that put the service users at the heart of everything we do. Inclusion Housing are proud to be a part of the strong working partnership with HBV, Lifeways and the Local Authority that has brought the project to this point. We look forward to seeing how our tenants develop with improvements in their health and wellbeing and will continue to deliver high quality homes for the most vulnerable members of society.”
