Update Three - 19 April 2024
This page provides an update on the complaints made to the Council about the comments made by three councillors during the debate at the Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 25 January 2024.

What stage has the investigation reached?
The investigation is proceeding and interviews with the representative sample of complainants and the three councillors will conclude this week. The investigator will then proceed to produce their draft reports. We expect that the investigation will conclude, and the outcomes made public, in early June 2024. However, we will not compromise on the thoroughness of the investigation, and it may take longer than we anticipate if the investigator feels that they need more time. We will keep people advised as to the timeframe and any changes to it, as necessary, via these periodic updates.
What are the next steps?
Once the draft reports have been produced, they will undergo a thorough review process, including consideration by an Independent Person. The role of the Independent Person is explained further in Update 1 of 23 February 2024. Following the review, the investigator will incorporate feedback as she considers appropriate and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the reports accurately reflect the input received. This comprehensive review process is estimated to take approximately six weeks from the initial production of the draft reports.
What is the position regarding the SEND Member Training?
The delivery of SEND training to elected members stems from a Council motion of 19 March 2024 and is not directly related to the ongoing investigation, which has yet to conclude. Any updates regarding the delivery of SEND Member training will be provided separately from the investigation proceedings.
