We have introduced automatic rising bollard systems to prevent unauthorised motor vehicle access to the pedestrian zones in Nuneaton and Bedworth. These will ensure the town centres are more pleasant and safer places to visit for everyone. The rising bollards are located at all entry and exit points and operate between the hours of 10am and 4pm every day.
Please do not attempt to drive into the pedestrian zone during these hours: it is illegal and you risk damaging your vehicle. However access will be allowed for certain authorised vehicles, eg emergency services, maintenance vehicles.
Generally, parking is prohibited 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and motor vehicles other than authorised vehicles are not permitted access between 10am and 4pm daily.
To allow for deliveries to be made and for other essential access including taxis, vehicles can enter to load and unload before 10am and after 4pm.
Holders of blue badges are also permitted to park in the zone before 10am and after 4pm, Monday to Sunday, but must ensure that vehicles do not cause an obstruction. All vehicles must leave the zone by 10am.
Generally, parking is prohibited 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and motor vehicles other than authorised vehicles are not permitted access at any time.
To allow for deliveries to be made, vehicles are permitted to enter and park in the designated loading bay in King Street to load and unload between 7:30am and 10am, or between 4pm and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Holders of blue badges are permitted to park in the designated disabled bay before 10am and after 4pm. Taxis are permitted to enter before 10am and after 4pm Monday to Sunday.
Drivers of authorised vehicles can be issued with a swipe card. When you wish to gain access to the zone, drive up to the panel where the red light will be showing. Use your swipe card and wait for the green light to show.
When the light changes to green, check that the bollard has lowered. It will then be safe to proceed. A special sensor will determine when your vehicle has cleared the bollard before it rises again.
The system is designed to allow only one vehicle to enter the zone at a time. Do not attempt to follow a vehicle into the zone as you risk damaging your vehicle.
You will be eligible for temporary access if you are carrying out maintenance, improvement, repair or reconstruction works on any premises situated within the pedestrian zone.
To apply for temporary access, you must submit an application form to the address below with your details, nature of works and details of the premises you are visiting, together with a refundable £50 deposit.
If the swipe card is not returned on the day of issue by 4pm or other agreed date/time, the deposit will be forfeited and the card will become void.
