Transport and travel help

U Bus is a door-to-door community transport service for all residents, whatever age, wherever you live in Stratford District, who are stuck for transport to get to local destinations on Mondays to Fridays between 0930 and 1430. U Bus’s four vehicles are fully accessible for people with mobility problems, and our drivers will be happy to help, but please do let us know if you need assistance and/or are a wheelchair user when you make your booking. The scheme is aimed at those who:

  • Have a genuine need for local transport;
  • Cannot access public transport because of mobility problems or other issues;
  • Live in an isolated location with no or infrequent levels of public transport available.

Information and a registration forms are available by phoning 01789 264491.

Once you’ve joined, book your U Bus journey by phoning the booking team on 01789 264491 on Mondays to Fridays between 9.30am and 2.30pm. Subject to availability, you can book your journey up to 24 hours before you wish to travel. You can book a journey up to seven days in advance. The earlier you book, the better chance of being given a journey to exactly match your requirements.

The service can be used for a wide variety of journey purposes – visiting friends, attending social groups or leisure activities, lifelong learning and of course, shopping.

But please note it’s not for Hospital visiting or appointments. The Volunteer Centre Medical Journey Scheme operates for such journeys. Contact VASA on 01789 296334.

Group hire for elderly passengers

Age UK Warwickshire

Available in Rugby Borough, Stratford District and Warwick District

Age UK are acutely aware of the needs of older and disabled people and transport is an important aspect in helping to alleviate social and rural isolation. In order to cater for such needs Age UK have based disabled-access minibuses across Warwickshire, including Stratford and Bidford.

The minibus fleet is driven by volunteer drivers who have been certificated to the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS). The vehicles are for hire to transport older or disabled people to Day Clubs, Day/Shopping Trips, Garden Centres and Pub Lunches.

Back and 4th Transport

South Warwickshire

Back and 4th’s Group Hire Service is available to community groups and voluntary organisations based within South Warwickshire. Groups are able to hire 15 or 16 seater minibuses with drivers at subsidised rates for travel to places of interest, meetings or social events.

All our vehicles are fully wheelchair accessible which allows wheelchair users to travel alongside their companions. To be eligible for our Group Hire Service your organisation must be ‘not for profit’ and fall into the following categories:

  • Disability groups,
  • Rurally Isolated groups,
  • Elderly groups.

All of our volunteer drivers have been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service and have undergone MIDAS training.

We do not have any restrictions on how far organisations can travel. In summer months we regularly transport groups on day trips to the seaside.

If you would like a quote for a journey or would be interested in volunteering as a minibus driver please call the office on: 01789 471595
