The law and licence renewal at 70

The law requires drivers to renew their license on reaching the age of 70, and every three years thereafter. Renewal is free of charge.

You can renew your driving licence online for free if you’re 70 or over – or will be 70 in the next 90 days through GOV.UK - renew your driving licence at 70 or over.

If you are unable to renew online, you can apply by post. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will send you the correct form 90 days before your 70th birthday or you can collect an application form from most Post Offices.

For further information please visit GOV.UK - renew your driving licence at 70 or over.
