The aim and vision of the People Directorate is to support people, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged by enabling them to access every opportunity and to enjoy, achieve and live independently.
People Directorate provide social care, learning, and achievement and health-related services for all ages.
People Directorate is made up of the following three Business Units:
People (Strategy and Commissioning)

Brings together the following teams: All Age Disabilities Commissioning; Integrated Older People Commissioning; Children’s Commissioning; Public Health Protection and Place; Health Improvement Commissioning and Performance; Mental Health and Substance Misuse; Year of Wellbeing; Health and Wellbeing; Associate Director of Public Health.
Adult Social Care (Service Delivery)
Assistant Director, Pete Sidgwick
We support older people, people with a disability or long-term illness, adults with mental health needs, and carers to identify their strengths and the support they have available from their personal networks or the wider community. We also safeguard adults whose circumstances make them vulnerable, to protect them from avoidable harm.
Children and Families (Service Delivery)
Assistant Director, John Coleman
We intervene early to tackle problems emerging for any child, young person, their family and vulnerable adults who are at risk of needing help with daily living. Our aim is effective intervention which delivers better outcomes for everyone and includes better value for money for the Council.
