Assessments and appeals
Applications can take up to 12 weeks to process.
Assessments
If your application requires an assessment by an Expert Assessor a decision will initially be made by reviewing supporting evidence provided with the application or a telephone assessment will be carried out.
If the Expert Assessor requires further information to support their decision, they may invite you to carry out a video assessment. This is not suitable for all applicants and is at the discretion of the Assessor.
Alternatively, if you are required to attend a face-to-face assessment in order to assess your eligibility you will be sent a letter inviting you to attend our Assessment Centre. Face to face assessments will take up to 10 – 15 minutes and will take place in or outdoors (weather dependent).
Please ensure you thoroughly read any guidance provided for Video and Face to face assessments. Where applicable please ensure that you adhere to covid guidelines stated in any correspondence. Failure to do so could mean a face to face assessment is not carried out.

Appeals
If you are not satisfied with the decision, you can write to the team manager at the address on the letter, clearly stating why you think the decision was wrong. You have the right to appeal up to 28 days following the decision date.
If you provide additional information that wasn’t presented at the time of assessment this will be treated as a reassessment.
