Summer Mountain Leader (ML) training and assessment courses

The Mountain Leader Award is for those who wish to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Marle Hall runs training and assessment courses, usually at Easter each year, and at other times by arrangement. We provide instruction, food and accommodation. Please note that you need to ensure that you have the necessary equipment, registration with your relevant Mountain Training Board, and the minimum experience logged to complete the training or assessment course.

The training course runs for six days, with a two-day expedition and overnight camp. All aspects of the syllabus are covered including:

  • navigation
  • ropework
  • equipment
  • mountain hazards and emergency procedures
  • along with many more

The assessment course lasts five days and consists of a three-day expedition with a two-night camp, a navigation day and a day assessing security on steep ground and emergency rope work.
