Aims

The trainee instructor scheme has been set up at Marle Hall to give young people (over 18 years) the opportunity to gain experience and qualifications relevant for starting a career in the outdoors. Running each year from September to August, it’s an ideal gap year for students who are interested in outdoor activities and working with young people in the future. We aim to:

  • Provide high quality instructor training. This will be during a year of practical experience for someone who is considering a career in the outdoors.

  • Give you the opportunity to gain relevant NGB qualifications

  • Develop teaching skills in a variety of adventure activities so that you can progress from basic instructing to running sessions at a higher level

  • Give you the opportunity to work on a range of activities with a variety of highly experienced and qualified instructors.

If accepted onto the scheme, we will create opportunities for you to develop your skills, experience and understanding of group management, technical outdoor skills (including training and assessment for NGB awards) and outdoor learning in the wider context of learning outside the classroom.

All food and accommodation is provided in a two-bedroom flat which is part of the centre building.
