Youth Chorale

Age range: 14-21

Standard: Members need a promising singing voice and some previous choral experience

Rehearsals: Fridays 5.00 - 6.55 pm at Kenilworth School, Leyes Lane, Kenilworth CV8 2DA.

The Warwickshire County Youth Chorale is a mixed voice choir (SATB) aged between 14 and 21 which sings music in a wide variety of styles, to a very high standard.

During the course of a year its performances are in great demand. In addition to giving concerts in churches in Leamington, Stratford, Rugby and Nuneaton, it has performed in Gosport and at the Shaw Theatre in London, represented Warwickshire at a Federation of Music Services National Conference and taken part in the Festival of Music for Youth.

In the spring of 2010 the County Youth Chorale were nominated Choir of the Day in the BBC Choir of the Year Competition. The Chorale toured Normandy in 2009.

The director of the Youth Chorale is Sheila Russell who is a highly experienced teacher and musician. She has developed the CMS choral department to its current impressive structure and range of activities.

Membership and joining information

Admission to the County Youth Chorale is by audition (where the emphasis in on group rather than solo singing). Candidates should be between the ages of 14 and 21 (applications from younger, able children will be considered if appropriate); although the guideline for standard is equivalent to Grade 6, any promising singers with previous choral experience are encouraged to apply.
