| Q2. Why build a station in Kenilworth? |
| Kenilworth has a population of nearly 24,000. Since the closure of the former station in 1965 the population of the town has increased by 50%. The town lies within the ‘North-South’ corridor which runs between Nuneaton in the north and Leamington Spa in the south. The North-South corridor already suffers from severe congestion because of large movements of people throughout the day. The density of the population and the level of activity in the corridor is set to grow substantially and will create increasing demand for transport. These demands will increase car use and congestion unless a good quality public transport is available.
A new station would help improve accessibility, reduce congestion and aid economic regeneration. Access to Kenilworth from rest of the corridor would be improved and would help to provide access to jobs, education and leisure opportunities within Kenilworth. It would also provide links to similar opportunities elsewhere for residents of Kenilworth. |

| The scheme is still in the early stages of development. The initial business case produced in October 2006 estimated a capital cost (in 2008 prices) of £6.1m. |

| It is expected that construction will take between 9 and 12 months. |

The proposed site for the station is on the rail route between Leamington Spa and Coventry and is close to the town centre at the site of the former Kenilworth station goods yard on Priory Road. ![]() |

| The County Council is working with John Laing and Network Rail to identify the appropriate services to call at the station. The potential for direct services to Coventry, Birmingham and London is being investigated at this early stage. |

| The scheme is still in the early stages of development but it is expected that there will be waiting facilities, real time information on the platforms, kiss and ride facilities, a car park and bus interchange facilities. |
