Radiation Emergencies |
Whilst Warwickshire has no nuclear installations such as nuclear power plants or reprocessing facilities, the county may still be affected by a release of radioactivity due to an accident at a facility further away or during the conveyance of radioactive materials across our region.
In order to minimise the consequences in the event of such an accident, Warwickshire County Council works closely with it partners to ensure a rapid and co-ordinated response following an accident and the implementation of any countermeasures that are deemed necessary for the protection of the population. | |
Under the Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Public Information Regulations (REPPIR) Local Authorities also have a duty to supply information and advise to the public in the event of a radiation emergency.
In case of a radiation emergency notification will be provided through local radio & television, and police may issue warnings over loudhailers in the affected areas. |
In the event of a radiation emergency always remember:
|
|
Go indoors unless there is an obvious risk to the property, close doors and windows and shut down ventilation systems if it is safe to do so.
Stay indoors until you know more about the situation and the appropriate action you need to take to protect yourself further.
