Some motorists detected exceeding 30mph and 40mph speed limits (within a certain criteria) in Warwickshire are being given the choice of attending an educational course called the 'Speed Awareness Workshop'. Motorists will have to pay a £80 course fee but will not receive the 3 penalty points or pay the fixed penalty of £60 if they complete the course satisfactorily.
We are responsible for speed limits on all public roads, except motorways and trunk roads which the Highways Agency maintains (A5, A46, A45 from Coventry to M45 & A452 north of Stonebridge).
Sadly many people are hurt on our roads every year - in many cases this is due to inappropriate or excessive speed. You can now remind people travelling through your community that speeding in not acceptable by displaying our free ‘Slow Down’ stickers on your recycling bins.
SpeedAware was developed to address our communities speed concerns. The scheme provides a progressive tool kit of measures to address these concerns through the work of our Community SpeedAware Officers with Smiley SIDs (a flashing speed warning sign), temporary fixed flashing speed signs and Community SpeedAware volunteers.
Safety cameras have contributed to casualty reduction in Warwickshire by encouraging speed limit compliance.
