SAFE - Safety Awareness Fire Education

Children and young people who play with fire may range from the very young child fascinated by the bright colours of the flames to the older child who sets fires due to peer pressure or behavioural and emotional issues.

The Safety Awareness Fire Education (SAFE) program offers fire safety advice to a family as a whole, helping them to understand the dangers and reduce the likelihood of a fire being set in their home. As each child and family has specific individual needs, the programme is tailored to suit on a case by case basis.

The key objectives of this fire-setter intervention program are to protect the child and their family by:

  • Assisting the Parents / Carers of a fire-setting child to stay safe and reduce the risk of a fire in their home
  • Increase the family’s awareness of fire safety and advise them as to what steps need to be taken in the event of a fire in their home
  • To address and attempt to change the child’s fire-setting behaviour
  • Help the child understand the dangers and possible consequences of their actions

If your a parent or carer and have concerns about children who are fire setting please email safeteam@warwickshire.gov.uk.
