Developing new cycle routes

Warwickshire County Council's Cycling Strategy within the Local Transport Plan 2011-26 focuses on developing cycle networks in the five main towns in the county - Leamington Spa, Warwick, Rugby, Nuneaton and Stratford-upon-Avon - and working with Sustrans to complete the National Cycle Network within Warwickshire.

New cycle routes are also developed as part of the Safer Routes to School project.

Lawford Road, Rugby

A new cycle route linking Long Lawford with Rugby town centre.

Woodloes - south west Warwick / Aylesford School

Completion of Safer Routes to Schools scheme.

Warwick - Leamington town centre

Extension of Emscote Road cycle route to Leamington Spa town centre via Portobello Bridge

In December 2007, Warwickshire County Council was successful in winning Big Lottery funding through the Sustrans 'Connect2' project for the Kenilworth - Berkswell Greenway and Warwick University cycle scheme.

Cycle schemes completed in 2008/9 & 2009/10

  • Bishops Tachbrook - Warwick Gates - Safer Routes to School scheme
  • Shires Retail Park Access Improvement Scheme, Leamington Spa - improved access for pedestrians and cyclists (new link and crossings over Queensway and Tachbrook Park Drive)
  • Attleborough - Bermuda Park, Nuneaton - a new cycle route linking the Attleborough Fields and Bermuda Park industrial estates via George Eliot Hospital and the town centre
  • Brownsover - Avon Valley School, Rugby - Safer Routes to School scheme
  • North Leamington School - town centre, Leamington Spa - Safer Routes to Schools scheme
