MIPOD - Positive about Young People

Positive about Young People is a partnership between Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire Police. Our aim is to prevent disaffection amongst young people and remedy it where it occurs through a community based multi agency approach.

What are PODS? (Positive Operational Drop-In Strategy )

A POD is not the structure or activities we provide, they are merely vehicles to enable us to make contact with young people in the community who may not wish to engage with other services. It is a window of opportunity to build positive relationships, talk, listen, offer guidance and positive role models or to signpost young people to those support services best suited to help such as YISP or Mentoring.

The aim of PODS is to provide somewhere for young people to meet. PODS will only be opened when staffed by trained workers or other agencies.

PODS are not only there for young people; agencies will endeavour to attract the wider community. It is hoped PODS will become positive community focal points.

High Level PODS

High Level PODS are specifically manufactured steel cabins roughly 9m x 3m equipped with heating and lighting. They are equipped with information racks, tables, chairs, basic art materials and sports equipment. They are locked up when not in use. The PODS are temporary structures used to provide interim solutions to the needs of the community until more permanent arrangement is assessed.

Medium Level PODS

Medium Level PODS are held in existing buildings such as libraries, community centres and sports centres. These building are opened up in the evenings and accessed by the local young people as a drop in facility. Activities that take place are PlayStations, arts and crafts and sporting activities.

Low Level PODS

Low level PODS seek to engage young people in their community where there are no facilities available, therefore members of our team will interact with young people through sporting activities on local recreational grounds or multi use games areas (MUGA’s).

What are the advantages of PODS?

  • Young people have somewhere to access a variety of services and opportunities in their area.
  • Young people are given information about other services and opportunities in their area and how to access them.
  • Activity workers, Police and PCSO's get a clearer picture of the causes of anti-social behaviour and possible solutions.
  • The PODS scheme has, and continues, to build up relationships with Police and PCSO's.
  • PODS provide a place for young people to call their own, in their area, where relationships can be built between young people staff and community members.
