Would You Like to Help?

The Rural Housebound Service is always looking for new volunteers. You can commit as much or as little time as you can spare, from one day a month to a few hours a week. There are a number of ways that you can help:

  • Book selection: spend a few hours in an afternoon choosing books, talking books, music cassettes and jigsaws for customers;
  • Stock maintenance: you will receive training and materials to give you the skills to maintain our stock. We will teach you to replace loose pages, protect book covers, repair book spines and test and repair our talking book cassettes;
  • Visiting / driving: use our small van to visit housebound people across Warwickshire. It is not necessary to be able to drive as volunteers always go out in pairs. Some customers like to chat while others see the visit as a delivery. This role would suit someone with good communication and personal skills.

If you would like to help please contact the Rural Housebound Service at Kenilworth Library.

Care homes, day centres and sheltered housing

A regular and free service is supplied to residential care homes, sheltered housing, day centres and clubs.

Depending on the physical ability and interest shown by residents, club and day members, one of two services are provided: either:

  • a regular mobile library visit or;
  • an exchange collection of books, talking books on tape and music.
