Countryside - disabled access

Warwickshire increasingly offers Countryside Recreation opportunities for all. Our Country Parks have surfaced and signed access trails, our visitor centres and cafes have wheelchair access, mobility scooters are available on free loan at Pooley Country ParkRyton Pools Country Park and Kingsbury Water Park where there is also wheelchair access to many fishing pegs. We aim to cater for the needs of young and old alike through our events programme.

In the wider countryside there are lots of 'stile free' walks and guided trails. Use our publications pages to select the trails suitable for you. Books and leaflets published by Warwickshire County Council are available in alternative formats.

Walking in Warwickshire

The Rights of Way team has produced a book of easy-going walks around Warwickshire. The folder holds 12 individually printed leaflets, each of which includes a simple map of the walk with easy to follow directions, and photographs and illustrations of points of interest.

The back of each leaflet holds a map showing where the walk is located with directions to the site, and information about other places to visit nearby.

The walks are suitable for people of all abilities, and are generally accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs. Information about types of gates, path surfacing, the length of the walk and facilities available is included on each leaflet. The walks are between 0.3 and 4.5 miles long, and are situated in a mixture of woodland, parkland, around lakes and along canals.

The booklets can be bought for £1.50 each at the Visitor Centres at Kingsbury Water Park and Ryton Pools Country Park. They are also available at Tourist Information Centres and other outlets, or can be purchased by telephone or post.

Mobility scooters

The Visitor Centres at Kingsbury Water ParkRyton Pools Country Park and Pooley Country Park are accessible to less able visitors and to those with mobility problems. Mobility scooters are available to hire at £2.00 per session. Annual permits available for regular users at £20.00 to use at any of the above parks.

The scooters have sliding, rotating seats with adjustable armrests which make them easy to get on and off, and they are lightweight so they’re easy to handle. With a range of up to 20 miles, powered by on-board battery, they give plenty of scope for exploration of the parks. There is a weight limit of 18 stones.

If you are hiring for the first time you will need to bring in proof of your identity including photo ID and proof of your address. You will also be required to have a contactable mobile phone with you (in case of emergency or breakdown) and you will be required to leave your driving licence, passport or Blue Badge (disabled parking) with us whilst you are out on the scooter.

Booking in advance is advisable to avoid disappointment.
