St Mary's Church Warwick, Anglican

Warwick, Warwick

The Church enshrines much of the history of England, and has great architectural beauty and significance. It is a house of prayer and worship with a strong musical tradition. In 1123 Robert de Newburgh, Earl of Warwick, founded the church on its present site and established the College of a Dean and Canons. Part of the Norman building can still be seen in the Crypt.
The Chancel, Vestries and Chapter House were rebuilt in the 14th Century by Thomas Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, and represent one of the highest peaks of English Gothic architecture.

The glorious Beauchamp Chapel, unique in England, was built in the 15th Century to house the tomb of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick. It is a magnificent example of the European ecclesiastical architecture of its time, and it ranks as one of this country's greatest treasures. Also of great interest are the tombs of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, and his brother Ambrose, Earl of Warwick.

The Nave and Tower were destroyed during the great fire of Warwick in 1694 and rebuilt during the reign of Queen Anne. They were completed in 1704. The Tower still stands as a landmark overlooking the Warwickshire countryside, offering a welcome to all those searching for beauty and tranquility.

Magnificent views can be seen across Warwick from the tower, a small charge applies.
