Over the years numerous learners have attended one of our learning programmes and it has been instrumental in them starting new carers or as a gateway into further education.

A faint smell of the English countryside will be wafting into Atherstone when actor Ryan Kelly, who plays Jazzer in Radio 4’s long running soap The Archers, parks his imaginary tractor outside the Ratcliffe Centre car park on Ratcliffe Road on Monday 24 August 2009.

Ryan is attending the launch of the Warwickshire County Council’s Adult and Community Learning 2009/10 brochure. This annual event will also celebrate the academic achievements of many learners from across North Warwickshire.

Followers of The Archers will know how the flamboyant Jazzer managed to turn his life around.

In real life, actor Ryan Kelly is a pioneer. He was the first totally blind student at the Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol and in the Archers he is a blind actor in a sighted role.

Adrian Edgington, Development Worker for Warwickshire County Council’s Adult and Community Learning Service, said: “Potential learners and Archers fans alike are more than welcome to come along to join in the celebratory launch, with Ryan at The Ratcliffe Centre from 12.30pm until 2.30pm.

"Over the years numerous learners have attended one of our learning programmes and it has been instrumental in them starting new carers or as a gateway into further education.”
