Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet has agreed to explore proposals set out in an independent review of the medium to long-term plans of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.
County Fire Officer, William Brown at this afternoon’s cabinet meeting, presented the review to councillors. The proposals, which will now be examined in more detail, are as follows:
Agree to explore positively the combination of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Authority. Creating one fire authority for the three counties.
Request the Director of Community Protection and County Fire Officer to bring forward detailed proposals in support of option 4 in the independent review report.
Establish a Member/Officer Group, including the Portfolio Holder for Community Protection and the Deputy Leader, to consider immediately the joint requirements of, and arrangements for, a possible combination scheme with representatives from Hereford and Worcester Fire Authority.
Request the Community Protection Overview and Scrutiny Committee to monitor and scrutinise progress on these recommendations.
County Fire Officer, William Brown said:
“This has given the fire and rescue service a direction in which to travel and we will now devote the resources to working up those proposals. This is an exciting time for the fire and rescue service in Warwickshire which will ultimately benefit the communities of Warwickshire and our staff.”
It is hoped that full proposals will be presented to Cabinet by 6 December 2007.
