Firefighters in Rugby will be showing residents just how hot the summer can be as they launch their summer fire safety campaign.

The event will be taking place on Sunday 27 July at Blooms Garden Centre on the A45. The main aim of the event is to highlight unseen dangers of using accelerants to get your barbeque started.

As well as talking to firefighters about fire safety, visitors will also be able to win a number of excellent prizes all courtesy of Blooms, Wickes and Homebase. All you have to do is come along to Blooms garden centre between 10.30 and 12.30pm on Sunday and enter the free prize draw.

Firefighter Paul Haywood said:
“Fire safety is a real issue during the summer months with more people lighting up their barbecues and burning unwanted rubbish. By showcasing our safety messages at places like Blooms, we hope to target people of all ages investing in barbecues to show them how dangerous they can be when not used correctly.

“It is great to receive the support from local businesses and I would like to thank all of the businesses involved, not only for supporting the campaign, but also for their generous donation of prizes. “

Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, Councillor Richard Hobbs said:
“There is always an increase in 999 calls during the summer months, a number of which are down to the incorrect use of barbecues. It is essential that people are aware of the dangers of using barbecues, as it only takes a lapse in concentration or the use of an accelerant for them to easily get out of control.”
