A major road scheme gets underway at the end of this month in Rugby to put in new traffic lights and improve the flow of traffic through part of the town.

The works will get underway on March 29 and last for about 20 weeks on Spine Road, Mill Road and Boughton Road.

The £600,000 Warwickshire County Council scheme is funded by the developer Key Property Investments 2 Developments/St Modwens and will be constructed by Carillion Highway Maintenance.

The work will see the upgrading of the existing Boughton Road/Butlers Leap/Mill Road Priority junction to a junction with signals and at the access of the old GEC site on Mill Road, a new junction with traffic lights.

The purpose of the new junctions is to assist the traffic flow in the Brownsover area and the traffic which will be going to the new college, built as part of the redevelopment of the GEC site. This also involved the construction of the new Spine Road between Mill Road and Leicester Road.

Warwickshire County Council will be monitoring the works and shall endeavour to keep any delays to a minimum.

The area’s local County Councillors Carolyn Robbins and Helen Walton said: "We look forward to the works being completed with as little disruption as possible. The new junction and spine road will bring much needed relief to the residents of Mill Road and Boughton Road as well as providing safe access to the new college."
