This Warwickshire Crimebeat funded project enables Young People to get a serious message across creatively and I congratulate them for achieving this

A group of Young People from Rugby have designed a massive mural reminding others to say ‘no to drugs’ and ‘no to crime’ - thanks to funding from Warwickshire Crimebeat.
The 8 to 15-year-olds year-olds, who regularly meet at the Benn POD, know these issues affect many Young People, so designed a permanent reminder of the message on the side of their cabin on Millennium Green - just off Craven Road.
Supported by activity workers, the group spent around three months working on the project which they have deemed a success.
It was made possible following £594 funding from Warwickshire Crimebeat - which is funded by the High Sheriff of Warwickshire, supported by the Private Sector and managed by Warwickshire County Council’s ‘Positive about Young People scheme’.
Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “This Warwickshire Crimebeat funded project enables Young People to get a serious message across creatively and I congratulate them for achieving this.”
Crimebeat aims to reduce crime, the fear of crime and create safer communities. This initiative enables and empowers Young People to make a real difference and also encourages them to feel part of the community.
Since Crimebeat was launched in 2002, approximately £90,000 has been awarded to Young People for various projects county-wide aimed at tackling issues like bullying, vandalism, drugs and substance misuse, theft, graffiti, and anti-social behaviour.
Partners include Warwickshire County Council, Warwickshire Police, schools, youth clubs, Positive about Young People, PODs, the Princes Trust and other organisations involved with Young People.
Warwickshire Crimebeat is continually looking for groups of young people to apply for funding for community projects.
