Answer symbol Council Tax is one of the ways in which local authorities raise money to fund the services they provide, and amounts to roughly one third of local authorities’ total income. The remaining income is made up from a combination of government grants, business rates (also known as national non-domestic rates) and fees and charges.

The local authorities that raise money from Council Tax in Warwickshire are:

~ Your local District/Borough Council
~ Your local Town/Parish Council (Please note, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough do not have Town/Parish Councils)

Council Tax is a tax based on residential property. Each residential property is placed in one of the eight Council Tax valuation bands determined by its estimated market value on 1st April 1991 - the higher the valuation band, the higher council tax charged. Discounts are available in certain circumstances, such as where a property is occupied by one adult.
