 | Head Teachers will only be able to authorise such leave where there are exceptional circumstances that justify it. Lower costs or easier availability will not, of themselves, be a reason to authorise. Parents/carers should always give as much notice as possible of a holiday request, but must give at least six weeks' notice, using the appropriate form which can be obtained from the school.
Unnecessary absence during term time can have a very damaging impact on a child's achievement. For this reason, parents who continue to take their child on a term time holiday despite authorisation having been refused may, under some circumstances, incur a fixed penalty fine issued by the local authority.
