  • The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) licence allows schools to photocopy from most books, journals and periodicals. Click here to go to our services pages and find more information on this licence or visit the CLA website at www.cla.co.uk

  • The Education Recording Agency (ERA) licence allows schools to use sound recordings that have been made from television and radio programmes for teaching purposes. Click here to go to our services pages and find more information on this licence or visit the ERA website at www.era.org.uk

  • The Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) licence is required when you play sound recordings (CDs, tapes, records etc) in public for entertainment purposes. Click here to go to our services pages and find more information on this licence or visit the PPL website at www.ppluk.com

  • The Performing Rights Society (PRS) licence allows music, which falls within the Society’s repertoire, to be performed on school premises. Click here to go to our services pages and find more information on this licence or visit the PRS website a www.ceduman.co.uk/licensing/index.htm
    Please note that Grand Rights Work, including staged or full concert performances of operas, musical plays and pantomimes are generally not covered by this licence and permission to perform such items must be obtained from the copyright owners by the school directly.

  • The Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) Licence is the UK’s major licensing body for the reproduction of words and music of songs and hymns used in acts of collective worship or similar. A Christian Copyright Licence allows schools to reproduce the lyrics and music of many thousands of these songs of praise by photocopying etc, including the production of song sheets.

  • The Public Video Screening Licence (PVSL) covers all schools apart from Nursery Schools for screening movies for entertainment purposes, such as end of term treats, wet weather alternatives or after school clubs. (The screening of films within schools for the purposes of instruction does not require a licence.)

    Nursery schools wishing to show movies for entertainment purposes need a Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC) licence instead of a PVSL licence. Click here to go to the MPLC website.
