All schools have five days when teachers are taking professional development and pupils are not in school (Teacher Days). Two of these days are generally set by the Local Authority, with the other three set by each school.

Parents should always check directly with schools for exact details of when students are required to attend.
Parents who wish to take their children from school in term time, for example for a family holiday, should first apply to the Headteacher of their child's school for permission. . Parents should be aware that there is no automatic right for holidays during term time, and permission will only be given in exceptional circumstances. No more than ten days can be granted in any academic year, and such decisions can only be taken by a school's Headteacher.
