Reptile fencing has been put up by a local ecological company, and they will carry out reptile monitoring for a period of weeks.
The same ecological company is carrying out the required amphibian surveys along Element 4, the section of the route from the Greenway across to the university. Then the planning application can go in.
The Greenway from Burton Green towards Berkswell. We have had contractors in to scrape off the mud and accumulated debris on the section of the track. This provides a better surface that can be used by walkers and cyclist, until the final path surface can be laid. At the moment, there is no exit for cyclists, but there are a number of footpath rights of way that cross the Greenway track.
Following the grant of planning consent for the section of the Connect2 Cycle/Walking Route through Kenilworth Common, an application has now been made to the Secretary of State, under S38 of the Commons Act 2006 - for Works on Kenilworth Common.

A scheme to make it easy for the people of Kenilworth to choose walking and cycling for everyday journeys came a step closer on 4th November 2008, as sustainable transport charity Sustrans and its Connect2 partners at Warwickshire County Council signed the paperwork that will guide the development of the scheme.
This agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding, confirms partners continued commitment to transform The Kenilworth Greenway along the disused railway line, with additional links to the university campus and town centre. Work on the £700,000 project was planned to start in December 2008 with completion set for autumn 2011. Over the next five years further work throughout Kenilworth will link the railway route to the town centre, creating a traffic-free link enabling many people to walk or cycle to university, to work or the town centre – to the benefit of both their health and the environment.
This scheme has only been made possible through the enormous popular support for Sustrans' Connect2 – funded by a £50 million Big Lottery Fund grant after the UK public voted the scheme the winner of The People's Millions Lottery contest in December 2007. The anticipated cost of the Kenilworth scheme is in £700,000, with £300,000 coming from the Big Lottery Fund as part of Sustrans Connect2.
Warwickshire County Council's Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr Martin Heatley, said: I am delighted that we have now secured the funding for this very important project. This route will open up Kenilworth to walkers and cyclists by providing essential links throughout the town and a new route through to the University of Warwick.
Sustrans' Connect2 Project Manager, Tim Temple says: We are delighted to be making this significant step towards completing the scheme in Kenilworth. In this era of rising fuel prices and concerns about the health of individuals and our environment, enabling more journeys to be made by foot and bike can only benefit our community.
Cllr John Whitehouse, Chair of the Kenilworth Connect2 Steering Group added, It is pleasing to see the plans for the scheme take shape and the memorandum signed. Creating route will involve providing a high quality surface between the University and the Kenilworth, including a new bridge over the A429, Coventry Road. Preparatory works are due to start early in the new year.
In December 2007, the public voted to decide who should win £50 million of National Lottery money in the 'Peoples Millions'. There were four schemes to vote for and the winner, Connect2 receives the whole £50 million! Two schemes in Warwickshire will receive a share of the winnings and works to improve the surface of the Kenilworth Greenway is already underway.
