Become a translator or interpreter

We are continually looking for skilled and qualified interpreters and translators.

Register as an interpreter or translator

Please send your C.V. to itsunit@warwickshire.gov.uk, including contact details, languages spoken and competency, and information about any qualifications or experience you have. Your details will be kept on file, and if we require your services, we'll contact you in the next few weeks.

In particular, we are looking for fluent/experienced speakers of:

  • Farsi & Dari
  • Korean
  • Kurdish Bardini and Sorani
  • Nepali
  • Thai
  • Turkish
  • Tamil
  • Pashtu (in Warwick/Leamington area)
  • Portuguese (in Warwick/Leamington area)
  • Polish (in Warwick/Leamington area)
  • Amharic & Tigrinian

But this list is not exhaustive: applications for all other languages (and areas) will be most welcome.

If you are seeking further information about obtaining a DPSI qualification, please contact Aston University in Birmingham, as this is the nearest course provider.

Interpreters

The qualities we are looking for in our skilled interpreters are:

  • excellent language skills;
  • local to Warwickshire and/or West Midlands;
  • mobile with own transport;
  • easily contactable.

We prefer to use interpreters who hold the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI), and we can advise you on how to apply for the DPSI course and inclusion on the National Register.

Interpreters are paid on an hourly basis (for a minimum of one hour) according to time of day: 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Higher rates apply when the service is required outside these hours and at weekends.

Interpreters are paid for:

  • time spent with professionals in briefing;
  • interpreting session;
  • travel time.

The interpreters' rates vary depending on the complexity of the appointment and knowledge required.
