Road Safety - Drivers And Riders
Motorcycles

You know how it feels when you see that perfect stretch of road. How tempting it is to take the opportunity and push the limits. It's one of the joys of motorcycling but it's also easy to get carried away.

Motorcyclists are more vulnerable than other road users and speeding will add to the risk. The number of riders killed or injured on Warwickshire's roads, many as a result of speeding, prove it.

Enjoy the freedom and exhilaration of riding your machine, but remember, other road users may not be looking out for you as they should and if something unexptected happens, no matter who's to blame, the consequences will be worse the faster you are going.

Preparing for your ride

As a motorcycle rider you can minimise the risk to your own life by taking responsibility for the way you ride and by remembering the following:

Are you legal?
  • Training up to date?
  • Bike and tyres checked?
  • Visor clean?
Read the road, look for hazards
  • Be junction aware.
  • Spot surface changes early.
  • Allow for weather conditions.
Think ahead, plan your progress
  • Read the signs.
  • Adjust position and speed.
  • Plan your overtakes.
Ride defensively, position for safety
  • Make yourself seen.
  • Expect the unexpected.
  • Expect the expected.
Look out for each other ... ... we're counting on you.
