Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA)

Inspectors praise Warwickshire County Council again!

Warwickshire County Council is “performing well and has clear ambitions for the area”, these are the findings issued by the Audit Commission today (Tuesday 18 November 2008).

The purpose of a CPA Corporate Assessment is to assess how well the council engages with and leads it communities, delivers corporate priorities in partnership with others, and ensures continuous improvement across the range of Council activities.

The Council has been given an overall score of three by the Audit Commission. Within the report it concludes that the council performs well in delivering value for money with a strong focus on efficiency. It also praises the good progress being made in improving the quality of life for residents and recognises the continued improvement in standards of educational attainment, improving transport, reducing crime, regeneration, particularly in Camp Hill and adult social care services.

Leader of the Council, Alan Farnell said:
“I am delighted that the Audit Commission have judged Warwickshire County Council to be a local authority that continues to improve. It is a clear indication of the hard work and dedication of the county council and its partners.”

Warwickshire County Council Chief Executive, Jim Graham said:
“Maintaining the status of a three star council is an achievement and one which the residents of Warwickshire should be proud of. Improvements continue to be made in raising levels of educational attainment and improving transport links within the county. There has been a strong focus on working in partnership to deliver our services to where residents say they need them most, however we do recognise that there is still work to be done to ensure that we continue to improve the lives of residents in Warwickshire.”

The report comes as a double celebration for the council who have also achieved a score of three for the Joint Area Review, a report published by Ofsted. The report assesses the services provided to vulnerable young people in the county and monitors the effectiveness of how we work in partnership with other agencies.
