| What is Road Safety Engineering? |
Safety engineering schemes, which are always undertaken after extensive consultation with the communities involved, addresses: |
- Inappropriate speed related personal injury crashes
- Road layout
- Junction safety
- Turning manoeuvres
- Visibility issues
- Vulnerable road users
| | |
 |
| Once a site or road has been prioritised it can be treated by a wide range of safety engineering measures which can include: |
- Signing, lining, coloured surfacing & rumble strips
- Crossing facilities
- Vehicle activated speed or warning flashing signs
- A reduction in speed limit
- Traffic Calming such as road narrowings, chicanes and cushions
- Camera Enforcement – but only as a last resort

No two Engineering Schemes are the same and measures that have a positive affect on reducing crashes on one road may not be as effective at a different location. |
