About County Highways County Highways is a Warwickshire County Council service and we manage and maintain all of the Highway Network in conjunction with Carillion plc except Motorways and Trunk Roads. The Highway Network The County has over 2,296 miles of roads 1,650 miles of footways 48,000 lighting columns 6,800 illuminated signs County Highways Provide Services to plan and carry out major remedial works to carry out inspections to monitor condition and safety to run local offices for day to day operations to manage street lighting to manage the work of public utilites on the highway Value For Money In the 2003/04 financial year we spent £19 million on highway maintenance works. All works are prepared and tenders issued on a competitive basis to obtain value for money. Some major expenditure headings for 2003/04 were: Planned structural maintenance £7.0m Street Lighting and Energy £2.6m Winter Maintenence £1.35m Surface Dressing £2.0m Patching £1.2m Administration In 2003/04 78 staff were employed at a cost of £2m to manage the £19m expenditure and deal with around 36,000 contacts from the public.
