The Voluntary and Community Sector is the term used to describe groups and organisations that exist to provide advice and information, sporting and social activity and social care, within their communities, mainly through volunteers.
In Warwickshire there are over 4,000 such organisations and many of them can be contacted through the Community Information Database on this website. Within the Voluntary and Community Sector there are number of community support organisations which focus on providing help and assistance to other groups and organisations in managing their affairs, or recruiting volunteers etc. These include:
Councils of Voluntary Service - based in the towns of Atherstone, Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington Spa and Stratford upon Avon, they support local voluntary and community organisations and groups on a wide range of management matters, including - governance, financial arrangements, recruitment, information technology etc. They also play an important role in representing and advocating for the voluntary and community sector.
Warwickshire Rural Community Council - is based in Stareton (near Stoneleigh) and is a countywide body that exists to support the particular needs of rural communities in relation to advice and information and to encourage the development of sustainable activities and services. It also hosts the Warwickshire Association of Local (town and parish] Councils
Volunteer Centres - are based in the towns of Atherstone, Nuneaton, Bedworth, Rugby, Leamington Spa and Stratford upon Avon. They encourage and support volunteering through promotion, recruitment, training and development and seek to match volunteers with the opportunities available in local organisations and to support the needs of individuals, depending on volunteers’ interests, skills and experience
Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs - is a countywide association of around 100 clubs working with over 6,000 young people and involving 800 youth workers. It works to improve the quality of life of young people between the ages of 11 and 25 through a range of programmes and events
Warwickshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services is the umbrella organisation that brings together all major voluntary youth organisations in the county. It advocates and campaigns for the voluntary youth sector and provides information and advice for its members and provides funding to support activities and projects
