Child Protection
Taking Care Scheme- Helping children learn to keep themselves safe

The Taking Care Scheme is a multi-agency group that aims to improve the safety and well-being of children in Warwickshire by teaching them skills that will empower them to keep themselves safer in a variety of situations.

The Taking Care Scheme aims to do this by:
  • Training school staff so they understand the principles of the Taking Care Scheme and are able to carry on with this work independently after the trainers from the scheme have left, and deal appropriately with situations that arise within the school.
  • Using tried and tested age-specific resources - read about The Protective Behaviours Programme.
  • Working with children in primary schools in partnership with teachers, support staff and parents.
The Taking Care Scheme has been running since September 1999. and is now a County-Wide initiative available to all schools across Warwickshire. The Warwickshire Safeguarding Children Board sponsor the scheme as part of its wider safeguarding agenda. It has been extensively evaluated and been found to be a highly successful and effective scheme.
